Many of us can remember washing a car or two to raise money during our childhoods…last month, we relived those memories when members of the Pop Warner Acreage Steelers Football League hosted their car wash at Southern Self Storage West Palm Beach – Okeechobee Blvd. The kids from the league varied in age (the youngest being just 5!) but were united in their enthusiasm and strong work ethic. In addition to carwashes, customers could also purchase raffle tickets and delicious Hawaiian Barbeque by local favorite, Aloha Moes.

Big (& belated!) congratulations to Mary & Larry, managers of Southern Self Storage North Pam Beach on Northlake Blvd. This past May, the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida invited them to the May Council Meeting, in recognition of their support of the local Support Our Troops!
During the council meeting, the amazing (and humble!) pair Mary & Larry were pleasantly surprised and honored to receive a very meaningful award – “The Key to the Village of North Palm Beach”. The mayor presented them with a beautiful plaque, and Councilman Bob Gebbia commented that Southern Self Storage is their largest supporter through their donation of a storage unit utilized to store goods mailed quarterly to the troops in Afghanistan, and through regular yard sale fundraisers.
Congratulations again to Mary & Larry of Southern Self Storage on Northlake for their heartfelt and inspirational success in supporting the local community.

Food Drive & Appreciation Party in Palm Beach Gardens June 28, 2011

It’s all too easy to forget that hunger knows no season. Food drives tend to surge during the holidays, but the grim reality is that countless South Floridians are in dire need of food year round. This knowledge inspired our managers Debbie, Tom, Charlie, & Chip to host a June food drive at their storage facility in Palm Beach Gardens.
For several weeks, customers and other residents of the area dropped off their donations during office hours. With hurricane season nearing, many people utilized the opportunity to refresh their supply of nonperishable items – giving foods that they no longer want in order to make room for new supplies. Ultimately, our generous community brought in enough food to fill most of our truck!
The food drive culminated in an appreciation party on June 26, at the Palm Beach Gardens Business Park across from the Weiss School. Attendees enjoyed free barbeque, grilled by former gourmet chef (and current manager) Charlie on a beautiful custom outdoor kitchen by Backyard Chefs. They were also entertained by live music from local sensation “Tolly Bros”.
Get involved with Feeding South Florida! Beyond hosting or donating to food drives, there are a myriad of ways to get involved with Feeding South Florida, including volunteering time, contributing financially, and simply raising awareness of this critical issue.
