Prior to Moving Day
- Sell or donate any items you do not need
- Call utility & service companies to determine a date to end your utilities services
- Complete all repairs that are necessary. If you’re a renter complete all task on listed on your inspection report from the homeowners
- Set up start dates for utilities in your new home
- Reserve a moving truck or contact a moving company for a quote
- Rent a storage unit.
- Purchase moving supplies and begin collecting boxes
- Make travel and accommodations and arrangements for everyone, even your pets!
- Contact the Post Office and schedule your change of address
- Begin packing items you don’t need like art, photos, holiday items one room at a time.
- Begin moving your items you don’t need to your storage unit –be sure to stack the items you need last in the back. Be sure to pack items that you will need last like clothes, toiletries and even snacks. Don’t forget your pets!
Post Moving Day
- Update your driver’s license, registration and license plate
- Register to vote
- Change and update your insurance policies
- Transfer all of your records: medical, school and prescription
- Notify your banks and financial institutions of your new address
- Share with your friends and family your new contact information.
